Dear Senator,

I would like to go on record as saying that I oppose the FCC’s recent decision to allow phone companies to share private, personally identifiable information such as calling patterns and numbers with third parties that provide “communications-related” services. This is yet another wholesale giveaway to big business of personal privacy. Who is looking out for consumers in this government? For one thing, the requirement that the third party be “communications-related” is a joke - any business that wants to can call itself communications-related simply by doing business with a phone company! It reminds me of the giant loophole in the the privacy policies surrounding real estate transactions, in which title companies peddle financial data to numberless corporations, which in turn send endless credit card applications to home owners. As the president of Sun Microsystems said, there is no privacy in America anymore, get over it. Well, I won’t get over, I’m mad as hell, and I’m tired of having every bit of my life tracked in corporate databases so that they can send me targeted advertising. Enough! We need laws that require OPT-IN only, for all types of information sharing between business entities.
